extended bio
Fueled by roots rock & roll and Texas boogie, J. Isaiah Evans & The Boss Tweed deliver revved-up roots music built for garages, roadhouses, and juke joints. It's an old-school sound for the modern age, powered by overdriven amps, a roaring Hammond B-3, and deep reverence for the architects of American rock & roll.
Drawing inspiration from legends like Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry and modern trailblazers such as The White Stripes and The Black Keys, singer-songwriter and guitarist J. Isaiah Evans assembled The Boss Tweed after spending nearly a decade fronting the critically acclaimed roots-rock outfit The 40 Acre Mule. Joined by keyboardist Matthew Vasquez and drummer Spud Crowley, Evans reimagined the classic organ trio as a lean, hard-driving rock & roll machine.
The band's debut album, Americana Radio, showcased that vision in full. Recorded live to analog tape over two days in the studio, the album fused groove, grit, and vintage soul with a modern edge, breathing new life into a format more commonly associated with jazz. Tracks like "Let's Rock" and "A Thing For You" introduced listeners to a power trio steeped in tradition yet firmly rooted in the 21st century.
Following the release of Americana Radio, J. Isaiah Evans & The Boss Tweed shared stages with acclaimed artists including JD McPherson, Dave Alvin, and Alejandro Escovedo, establishing a reputation as one of the most electrifying roots-rock acts on the road today. Now back in the studio working on their sophomore album, the band continues to push forward with the same combination of swagger, soul, and rock & roll urgency that has defined them from the beginning.
J. Isaiah Evans & The Boss Tweed aren't chasing the past. They're carrying it into the future.
